About the event

This course is for workers, health and safety representatives, team leaders and managers who want to understand how to prevent and manage fatigue in their workplace, with a focus on shift work and irregular working hours.


Physical and mental fatigue are hazards that effect a person’s ability to work safely. Fatigue reduces alertness and can lead to errors and an increase in incidents and injuries. 


This course explores:

  • The causes of fatigue and impact on workplace health and safety;
  • Sleep science including the relationship between fatigue and sleep and implications for shift work;
  • Understanding the legislative duty to manage the hazard of fatigue;
  • Taking a risk management approach to managing fatigue;
  • Tools and templates for introducing or improving a fatigue risk management system.


Please note that this course is approved for ERE leave (Course 737). 

Unions planning to use EREL to send participants to the course must notify the employer at least 14 days before the course start date.


The minimum number for the course to go ahead is 12. Registrations will close 1 week from the course start date (if places are not filled prior).


Unions are asked to register no more than 5 participants per course unless by prior arrangement.
